Reading Always Comes First

Meet Your Principal: Tricia Shenefield

School: Beach Elementary

Other positions you have held in education: Before coming to Cedar Springs, I was a teacher, an assistant principal and a principal with Grand Rapids Public Schools.

How about jobs outside education? My first job was as a bagger in a grocery store, and then I worked for Pizza Hut and as a technical engineer for a phone company.

Family: My fiance and I recently purchased a home in Belmont and together have a total of five energetic children, ages 5, 7, 8,13, and 16.

Tricia Shenefield was 8 years old when this second-grade picture was taken

Hobbies/Interests/Little-known talent: Biking, reading and writing poetry.

What kind of kid were you at the age ofstudents at this new school? I lived in the country, so I was always outside playing in the woods and by the river. I was shy and loved horses.

The biggest lesson you have learned from students is … that they notice everything you do and say.

If I could go back to school I would go to … sixth grade — that is the year I read my first chapter book beginning to end, and fell in love with reading.

If you walked into your new school building to theme music every day, what would the song be? “Eye of the Tiger” because I also enjoy sarcasm and humor.
