Holidays are times for sharing and school administrators are making sure their students have something extra during the winter break.
Since many New Beginnings High School students find much of their support system at school, explained Superintendent Laura VanDuyn, staff decided to give them “an extra boost of love on the last day before the break.”
“Christmas can be a time for many kids when their meals are not provided and they lose connections to the incredibly caring New Beginnings High School staff,” said VanDuyn.
Before they left today, the students and staff were to be treated to a lunch of sloppy joes, meatballs and side dishes, prepared by district administrators.
Staff across the district planned to bring homemade cookies so each could take a dozen or two home for the holidays. Donors were to provide gift cards for coffee, McDonald’s and athletic events for each student. In addition, a supply of non-perishable food items, boots and gloves was to be made available for students.
