Grand Rapids — The district is moving forward with repairing Ottawa Hills High School’s swimming pool, fixing drainage issues and improving pumping and filtration systems.
At a committee meeting on March 15, Executive Director of Facilities and Operations Alex Smart said the estimated completion goal is January 2024.
The Ottawa Hills girls’ swim team will continue practicing at City High School for the upcoming fall season.
Closed since spring 2022, the Ottawa Hills pool was leaking large amounts of water when the district learned there was a leak in the pipes underneath the floor.
At a recent Board of Education meeting, Superintendent Leadriane Roby said it cost at least $500,000 to fix the pool, according to a professional estimate. The project will officially start after the district hires an engineer, who also plans to work with a pool consultant.
Additional high school facilities projects include refurbishing Ottawa Hills’ weight room with new equipment, funded by a donation from Planet Fitness, and completing the weight room renovation at Union.
