District hosting town hall meetings on attendance zones

Kentwood — With the new Hamilton Elementary and Early Childhood Center slated to open in the 2025-2026 school year, the district is hosting town hall/focus group meetings to discuss some logistics.

The hour-long meetings will give the community a chance to provide input on proposed elementary boundary changes and address other questions and concerns, said Sunil Joy, executive director of strategy and innovation.

It is the second round of community engagement the district has hosted on the subject, and the goal is to receive as much feedback as possible.

The new school, at 3303 Breton Road SE, will be the district’s 11th elementary building. It will open after a $20 million renovation of the former Hamilton Early Childhood Center.

While some of the existing 10 elementary schools will be affected more than others, all will have some changes made to their attendance zone, Joy said.

Meetings at the following elementary schools are:

  • Meadowlawn — Oct. 22; 4:30 p.m.
  • Challenger — Oct. 22; 6:30 p.m.
  • Endeavor — Oct. 30; 4:30 p.m.
  • Discovery — Oct. 30; 6:30 p.m.
  • Townline — Nov. 5; 4:30 p.m.
