KSSN executive director named to national board

Kent ISD — A national nonprofit recently appointed Kent School Services Network Executive Director Keenan King to its board of directors.

Institute for Educational Leadership, which is based in Washington, D.C., announced King’s appointment in February. IEL is a national organization that focuses on connecting communities with public education to support the learning and development of young people.

Kent School Services Network is a community-school initiative that works in 44 schools within the school districts of Godwin Heights, Godfrey-Lee, Grand Rapids, Kentwood, Kenowa Hills and Sparta.

IEL President Eddie Koen said King’s direct connections to schools and districts and his support of the community schools strategy align with IEL’s work in supporting students and families.

“As the leader of a lead agency implementing community school initiatives in Michigan, I turn to IEL for best practices, innovative approaches and a network of colleagues dedicated to advancing education excellence nationwide,” King said in a press release.

“I am honored to join the board and committed to elevating the voices of students, educators, community partners, and those who experience our schools daily and understand firsthand what is needed for all young people to thrive.”
